Pete Varney (full name Richard Fred Varney Jr.), born
April 10 ,1949 inRoxbury, Massachusetts , was aMajor League Baseball player for theChicago White Sox andAtlanta Braves .Varney, a graduate of
Deerfield Academy and laterHarvard University was first selected by the White Sox in the first round of the1971 amateur entry draft. From1973 to1976 he played there professionally. OnJune 15 , 1976 he was traded with the Atlanta Braves in 1976 in exchange forBlue Moon Odom . His last pro game played was onSeptember 12 , 1976.Varney is currently the head Baseball coach at
