accessdate=2008-04-15] The headquarters of lowernine.org is located in the Holy Cross neighborhood of New Orleans'sLower Ninth Ward .The organization is dedicated to the training of local residents in the area of reconstruction. It is entirely funded by donations and service volunteers. The 2008 Spring Break period (mainly March) saw over 200 volunteers from all over the nation. However, this is representative of a peak period and not indicative of the day-to-day volunteer community itself.
As of March 24, 2008, over 100 homes in Holy Cross are on the list for reconstruction. Although any form of service is greatly appreciated, those skilled in carpentry, electrical wiring, plumbing, etc. are sought after.
