Vontu was founded in 2001 by Joseph Ansanelli, Michael Wolfe, and Kevin Rowney. Vontu was funded by Benchmark Capital, Venrock, and USVP and raised a total of $35M.Vontu created the category name and became a leading data loss prevention company in the United States.

Vontu CEO, Joseph Ansanelli, was invited to testify before Congress on issues of data security and privacy.
