V class ferry

V class ferry

The V Class Ferries include the following BC Ferries Ships Built between 1961 and 1963: These vessels were the backbone of service on the Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay Route prior to the arrival of the "Spirit of British Columbia" in 1993. These vessels have also undergone vehicle capacity increases three times. The first was the installation of platform decks or ramps, the seconds saw the ships sliced in half vertically for the insertion of an 84 foot mid-section, the third increase that was probably one of the biggest enginering projects on an existing vessel in BC Ferries history saw the ferries cut horizontally to insert an extra car deck.

The vessels are slated to be retired and sold in 2008 [http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/news/westcoastnews/story.html?id=c724b08a-beb1-425b-bd02-b534766b7072 Aging Queen of Esquimalt ferry sold to buyer in China ] ]
