Kelly Marks

Kelly Marks

Kelly Marks is an English equine-behaviourist. She was Monty Roberts' student and started to teach his method in Europe.

Biography

Kelly was born and raised around horses since her father was a racing-horse trainer. When he was aged 17 he won a race on a filly called Godiva who, up to that moment was considered impossible to tame. Kelly decided to follow her father's footsteps and grew up with the romantic ideal of creating a similar bond between mankind and horses. When she was 11 she was given her first pony whom she called Seamus. Thanks to this pony's attitude and to Sandra Marks' (her older sister) support, Kelly started to ride dealers' horses in order to put in evidence the animals' quality in the presence of potential customers.Later she went on to ride in races but in the last 4 years of her career as a lady-jockey she realized that using a whip was not necessary and started to see the whole equestrian world from a different point of view. On 30th April 1993 she met Monty Roberts (known to many as "the real life horse whisperer") who showed her his method of natural horsemanship and it was at that point that Kelly understood she finally found the confirmation to her conviction: There existed indeed a non aggressive way to communicate with horses and to establish a relationship with them.

Now Kelly Marks is renown in the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe as a reference point for those who wish to learn the method of Monty Robert, whom she is still in contact with. She organizes courses to teach these techniques based on behaviour principles completely different from the traditional school of thought.

She founded "Intelligent Horsemanship", on organization dedicated to promoting the understanding and fair treatment of horses. Kelly travels around the world demonstrating her methods and is also the popular equine problem-solver featured on the prime-time BBC TV programme "Barking Mad".
