Cardinal Heenan Roman Catholic High School is a state school on Tongue Lane in Meanwood, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The school used to be St Thomas Aquinas Grammar School which was built in the 1960s and lasted less than 20 years - disappearing in 1979 when it was amalgamated with the next door John Bosco school to create Cardinal Heenan Roman Catholic High. The old school buildings have since been demolished and a whole new school built which is today's Cardinal Heenan. The fully rebuilt school officially re-opened as Cardinal Heenan RC High School around the year 2000. An old house, situated right next to the school on the school grounds, which belonged to the ex-caretaker of the school has since been demolished to make way for a pair of new modern homes. The house was repeatedly vandalised and broken into due to its easy access. The school achieved the status of a Beacon School, a government funded programme which was phased out in August 2005. The school also recently successfully achieved the status of being a language college. The school was host to famous faces such as Paul Hunter.
There are a multitude of subjects available at Cardinal Heenan, though some are only available as an option at GCSE/KS4. The core subjects of English, Maths and Science are compulsory. As a Language College, a Modern Foreign Language is also compulsory for all students. A full list of subjects is as follows:
*Art
*Business (KS4 only)
*English
*Geography
*History
*ICT
*Maths
*MFL
*Music
*PE
*RE
*Science
*Technology
Cardinal Heenan Roman Catholic High School is also a part of the Diocese of Leeds.
