Howard Blumenthal is a American producer, author, and entertainment executive. He is currently the CEO of Independence Media where he developed and launched , a new TV + internet service emphasizing community engagement and learning.
From 1990 to 1994, he produced the
Peabody Award and Emmy award-winning PBS children's series "Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? (game show) ". This was followed roles as a senior executive at KidSoftClub KidSoft , and Glow in the Dark Productions, which developed and produced original specials and series forHBO Family,Nickelodeon , Universal syndication,Food Network ,History Channel ,Cinemax , andTV Land . In 1999, he joined the dot.com music and entertainment siteCDNow as a senior executive, then moved to Bertelsmann's e-commerce group in a similar role. Earlier in his career, he was on the development and/or launch teams forQUBE ,MTV , andNickelodeon , and for various home video and publishing ventures.He is the author of more than 20 books about American history, popular music, media, marketing, creativity and social issues. A former newspaper columnist for United Features and the
New York Times Syndicate, his work has appeared regularly in over 100 newspapers. Notable books include Branded for Life, and This Business of Television.He has been affiliated with
