Dr. Hubert Lienhard (b. 1951 in Triberg in the
Black Forest ) has been the CEO and President of Voith AG since 1 April 2008. Voith is a German family-owned company of the machine and plant engineering industry based in Heidenheim/Brenz (Baden-Württemberg) with 270 locations worldwide. Founded in 1867, the company is active in the markets paper, energy, mobility, infrastructure and service. In the business year 2006/2007, Voith achieved sales worth approximately four billion Euros with 37,000 employees.After studying chemistry and gaining a doctorate, Dr. Lienhard joined Lurgi GmbH in 1981, for which he worked for several years in the USA and Scotland. In 1989 he changed to ABB Kraftwerke AG, Mannheim. After holding a post as General Manager of the gas turbine business, he was appointed to the Board in 1993. In 1994, Dr. Lienhard was called to the Board of ABB AG Deutschland and, in 1996, also became a member of the Management Board of ABB Ltd. Zurich. During this time he headed the worldwide business division coal-fired power plants of the ABB Group.
Dr. Lienhard's career at Voith AG began in 2001 as Member of the Board. In 2002 he was appointed as Chairman of the Board Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation GmbH & Co. KG and other functional responsibilities. Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation is a joint venture of Voith and Siemens in the field of mechanical and electrical equipment for hydro power plants.
Dr. Lienhard is a member of the Supervisory Board of Sulzer AG and SGL Carbon AG. He is also the appointed India Liaison Officer of the Asia Pacific Committee of the BDI Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie, a member of the German Indian Advisory Group, a board member of the International Hydro Association (IHA), as well as Chairman of the Hydro Equipment Association (HEA).
Dr. Lienhard is married with two children.
