Georgia brass band

[http://www.Georgiabrassband.com The Georgia Brass Band] was conceived by co-founders Joe Johnson and Christopher Priest in the spring of 1999. It is a traditional British brass band. The band performed its first concert in September of that year and has maintained a very busy schedule ever since. Band members are selected by audition or invitation and include some of the finest musicians in the Atlanta area.

All members and staff volunteer their time and talents to the band. Instrumentation follows the British tradition of Cornets, 1 in Eb, 9 in Bmusic|flat, Flugelhorn, Tenor Horns, 3 in Emusic|flat, Baritones, 2 in Bmusic|flat, Euphoniums, 2 in Bmusic|flat, Tenor Trombones, 2 in Bmusic|flat, Bass Trombone , 1 in Bmusic|flat, Tubas (2 in Emusic|flat and 2 in Bmusic|flat; often called Basses), and Percussion. The band members represent a variety of professions, including lawyers, doctors, salespeople, business owners, educators, students, analysts, computer professionals, freelance musicians, a former college vice president, a real estate agent, an engineer, a financial planner, and even a pipe organ builder. And while their backgrounds may vary, all members share a love for making good music together.

The band's repertoire is quite diverse and ranges from the Renaissance and Baroque to the 21st century. The library is full of marches, sacred arrangements, popular music, jazz tunes, movie themes, and classical transcriptions. Additionally we perform a number of challenging concert selections and contest items written specifically for brass band. The band's versatile combination of instruments can produce a variety of tonal colors and sounds at home in nearly any style of music.

The Georgia Brass Band has appeared on local radio and television and performed at numerous schools, churches, concert halls, festivals, music camps, and colleges throughout the state of Georgia and beyond. The band has also appeared with a number of renowned brass soloists, including trombone soloist Scott Hartman, Principal Trombone of the Atlanta Symphony Colin Williams, trumpet soloist Vince DiMartino, and Principal Trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Chris Martin.

The band was a resident ensemble at the Dozier Centre for the Performing Arts in Kennesaw. As such, the band presented several subscription concerts there each season. The band's devotion to the community is proven through their volunteer efforts including free concerts and work with WABE public broadcasting. The band also served as a mentoring partner to the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra Brass Band.
