Reze Mahjoubi's father Abbas Ali Amir Nezam Azarbaijani was a flute player. Reze Mahjoubi started to study music in 1293 AH (1914 CE) in the San Louie School. Reza studied music with Hossein Hang-Afarin - a prominent musician of that time - and Ebrahim Ajang. However, due to his lack of interest in the art of music theory, Reza ceased taking lessons from Ajang. He went on to study the violin with Hossein Khan Esmailzadeh, a
kamancheh master. At that time, anyone who wished to receive violin lessons would do so with Esmailzadeh.Reza Mahjoubi was an assiduous musician, dedicating many hours of the day to practicing music in hopes of surpassing his younger brother, Morteza. Reza founded his own teaching studio in 1926. Soon afterwards, he began performing in Radio Iran programs and at various concerts. He composed several beautiful rengs, pishdaramads and chahar-mezrabs.
His wife Fakhr Sadat was a pianist.
Unfortunately, Reza Mahjoubi was afflicted with a drug addiction and he eventually lost his mind as a result. He died in 1954.
