Guido Poppe

Guido Poppe

Guido T. Poppe (11 September 1952 - *) is a Belgian malacologist and shell dealer.

The son of an enthusiastic sports fisherman, Guido came into contact with the sea at a very young age. He became fascinated by marine life during yearly holidays in Brittany, France. His first diving experiences were in these cold waters in 1968.

He developed a career as a professional freelance conchologist. This allowed him to dive in many parts of the world: from the northern tip of Norway south to Ushuaia. In addition to the whole of Europe, including the Black Sea, he also dived in many tropical seas: Baja California (the Sea of Cortes); Chile, Argentina, the Caribbean Sea from Florida south to Margarita Island; West Africa with many stays in the Cape Verde Islands, Senegal and Kenya; Sri Lanka, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, Australia (Queensland and Western Australia), French Polynesia and Rapa Nui. Most of his dives are in the [http://www.poppe-images.com Philippines] : he has compiled about 6,000 dives. Today he lives in Belgium and the Philippines.

His career as a conchologist brought him fame in this field, mainly through co-authoring popular books on the subject.
