Shirley Thomas b 15/06/1963 is a retired British sprinter who competed mainly in the 100m and 4x100m relay. Her best result was a silver medal in the very first World Championship sprint relay final,the team that included
Joan Baptiste ,Kathy Cook ,Beverley Callendar and Shirley. She anchored the team that won the Silver medal behind the GDR, the British team were actually in the lead into the last change over. Shirley held the lead but was inevitably caught by the newly crowned 100m World ChampionMarlies Gohr . They ran a time of 42.71 just ahead of the fast finishing Jamaican team. She also helped the British team to another silver medal at the European Championships the year before.This occurred during a Golden Era of British Womens sprinting, made all the more remarkable as many of their rivals were on performance ehancing drug programs.
