Register.com (formerly Forman Interactive) was founded as a provider of Internet services by brothers Richard and Peter Forman in 1994. In 1999 the company officially changed its name to Register.com.

On April 21st 1999, ICANN announced Register.com was one of the first five testbed registrars for the competitive Shared Registry System. On June 7th, the company began operations under this name as a paid registrar in the .com, .net and .org domains. It was the first of the five testbed registrars to come online. In 2000, Register.com issued an IPO and began trading on the NASDAQ under ticker symbol RCOM. By 2004 the company was managing over 3 million domain names and was listed by VeriSign as one of the top domain name registrars in the world.Fact|date=June 2008

In November, 2005 Register.com was acquired by Vector Capital Corporation. Register.com became a private company once again and stopped publicly trading on NASDAQ. In the same year, the company received recognition for “An Outstanding Customer Service Experience” when it became the first Online Services Industry organization to receive the J.D. Power and Associates Call Center Certification.

In November, 2006 Larry Kutscher joined Register.com as Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Kutscher came to Register.com from Dun & Bradstreet where he served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Small Business Group. The company employs about 400 team members in the US, Canada and the UK. Register.com is headquartered in New York City with satellite offices in Baltimore, Maryland and London, England. Register.com’s Sales and Service center operates in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia; over 300 of Register.com’s team members are employed at this center.
