* 1859 – The Atchison and Topeka Railroad Company, forerunner of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, is chartered to build a railroad from Topeka, Kansas, to Santa Fe, New Mexico.

* 1951 – The San Diego and Arizona Eastern Railway discontinues passenger train service.
* 1994 – Kansas City Southern Railway (KCS) begins operating over former MidSouth Rail Corporation tracks (previously spun off from Illinois Central Gulf Railroad in 1986) following the recent merger of MidSouth into KCS.
