Gregory Thomas Smith (born December 22, 1983 in city-state|Alexandria|Louisiana) is a Major League Baseball starting pitcher for the Oakland Athletics. He attended Louisiana State University and was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the sixth round in the 2005 Major League Baseball Draft.

On December 14, by|2007, Smith was traded to the Oakland Athletics along with Carlos González, Brett Anderson, Aaron Cunningham, Dana Eveland, and Chris Carter for Dan Haren and Connor Robertson. Smith made his first major league start on April 9, mlby|2008, pitching six innings and allowing two earned runs, in an effective start that allowed the Athletics to eventually win.

Smith's most deadly asset, his lethal pickoff move, is gaining notoriety around the league. He picked off 15 runners in 2008, leading the majors.
