Background

Raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Boris is a metal smith of all shapes and sizes. Starting at age 13, Boris found an interest in the metal arts when he took a class where he made brass knuckles and throwing stars. His interest continued to grow as he experienced the industry through more classes and meeting local artists. He began classes at the Pittsburgh Center of Arts, Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts, Tyler School of Arts and then onto Carnegie Mellon University. Through his travels and apprenticeships, Boris showed an interest in the more extreme and mechanical aspect of design.

Artistic History

Starting out, he focused on jewelry and flatware to establish himself as an artist. With the recognition and respect from his peers and fans, he began to explore his options. As a male, Boris had a natural interest in mechanics, artillery, and scrap metal. Continuing his interest, he expanded into scrap objects and road signs.
Today Boris has a portfolio that vary from furnishings and vessels to installations and wearables.

GlasswearThe international exhibition curated via the Museum of Art & Design, New York and Pforzheim Jewelry Academie 'Glasswear,' opens at its second venue in June (until October) at the Glazen Huis Vlaams Centrum voor Hedendaagse Glaskunst, Lommel, Belgium- travels until 2010. Illustrated hard-Bound catalog published by Arnoldsche, Germany.

The Japan Jewelry Art Competition 2008, organized by the Japan Jewellery Designers Association and mediated by Jim Bové, has invited 12 American jewellery artists to participate. The show will tour five cities in Japan. Opens May 10 at the Ueno Royal Museum, Tokyo and travels to 4 other locations in Tokyo until - Sept 15, 2008. Mint Museum of Craft + Design is organizing a permanent collection installation that highlights their international jewelry and metalwork collection. On view while the Mint hosts Ornament as Art: Avant-Garde Jewelry from the Helen Williams Drutt Collection (August 16, 2008-January 4, 2009). This installation will honor jewelry and metalwork currently within our collection and encourage further interest and exploration in the field. Boris' piece Pointless Bowl is being considered for the installation.

The Wood Turning Center is putting together a traveling exhibition of corkscrews & bottle stoppers. Artists Boris Bally and Michael Hosaluk will co-curate and jury this exhibit.
