An EMD SDP40 is a 6-axle diesellocomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between June 1966 and May 1970. Power was provided by anEMD 645E3 16-cylinder engine which generated convert|3000|hp|abbr=off|lk=in|sigfig=3. Essentially this locomotive was anEMD SD40 equipped with a steam generator, located in the extended long hood end, for passenger use. Six examples of this locomotive model were built for the Great Northern Railway and fourteen were built forFerrocarriles Nacionales de México .References
