Lishi District

Lishi District (Chinese: 离石区; Pinyin: Líshí Qū) is a district of Lüliang, Shanxi, China. The district is a major hub for the coal industry in Lüliang as well as an administrative center for the prefecture.

Lishi sports three major supermarkets to purchase groceries. These are:

Kaixinyu - a large chain with three outlets in the city. Kaixinyu is popular for low prices though it's selection, especially of foreign products and of fresh produce, is particularly low.

Jiajiale - Jiajiale is a slightly more up-scale supermarket that banks on high-grade products. It is probably the most expensive supermarket in the Lishi City region.

Meijiale - Meijiale is the largest supermarket in Lishi city. It is not quite as expensive as Jiajiale although it is more expensive than Kiaxinyu. Of the three supermarkets it has the best selection of fresh produce and meats although it is still of secondary quality to the open air markets that are spread throughout the city.

Dining in Lishi

Lishi is host to a wide variety of restaurants. There are numerous dining options in the city from the level of roadside venders operating out of the back of an electric bike up to up-scale restaurants connected to the many expensive hotels in the city. Some of the most notable fascets of Lishi dining include:

Huo Guo - not a single restaurant but rather a whole sub-class of restaurants Lishi has roughly 10 major huo guo restaurants. These vary in quality and pricing. One of the most popular, Xian Heng, received notoriety for offering free beer to diners, a promotion soon followed by other huo guo restaurants in the city.

Lvliang International Hotel - The Lvliang International Hotel provides the only non-chinese dining in the city if one does not desire the fast food options available otherwise. The menu in this up-scale three star hotel's attached restaurant includes pasta, pizza, steak and various thai and japanese inspired dishes.

Hong Ch'a Fan - Otherwise known as the black tea house (despite the fact that a literal translation would be red tea house), Hong Ch'a Fan is an authentic Chinese tea house. They have a wide selection of high grade teas along with other beverages and snacks.

Xinjiang Fandian - Xinjiang Fandian offers Uighur ethnic cooking at a low price. Perfect in the summertime, this restaurant offers one of the few patio dining areas in the city.

Staying in Lishi

There are multitudinous hotels of varying size and quality in Lishi. Guests from abroad would be well advised to stay at the Lvliang Hotel or the Lvliang International Hotel, both of which have three star ratings.

Education in Lishi

Lvliang Higher College is a government sponsored teacher's college that offers degrees from Taiyuan Normal University. Lvliang Higher College is presently seeking accreditation as an independent degree granting institution. It has three campuses. Lvliang Higher College is generally welcoming of european, north american and african native speakers of English, along with native speakers of Japanese for employment options in their foreign language department.Lvliang Higher College has had persistent problems maintaining electric power but has been making sincere efforts to modernize.
