He is an Asian American tenor saxophonist and composer who is currently lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. Chan is inspired by the work of African American creative musicians and takes note of the spirit of dedication, individuality, expressiveness, and freedom shown through their music. His albums has received have received critical acclaim such as in "Cadence" magazine and "San Francisco Weekly". Style

Chan states his influences include Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Ornette Coleman. He bases his music on avant-garde Chicago Jazz music which is a large influence of the Asian-American Creative Music Movement.
