Air Scandic

Air Scandic was an airline whose registered office was in Jersey, Channel Islands. It operated charters for various UK tour operators and was principally based at Manchester Airport. The airline also operated (mainly on a seasonal basis) from Glasgow, East Midlands, London Stansted and Newcastle airports to holiday destinations in Europe. The carrier also operated a small number of charter flights to Orlando in Florida during the peak summer season. In September 2005 however the business went into liquidation and was forced to close.

History

It was a privately owned airline established in 1997 that started operations in May 1998. Originally aircraft were operated on its behalf by Air Cordial, whose Air Operators Certificate was suspended at their request from 12 November 2004. Air Scandic was Lapland Air of Finland trading as Air Scandic. It suspended all flights and entered into liquidation in September 2005, leaving many of its customers stranded across Europe.

Fleet

The Air Scandic fleet latterly consisted of two Boeing 757-200 aircraft leased from Finnair and three McDonnell Douglas MD-83 (at June 2005). Before that, they operated two Airbus A300 aircraft on long-term leases from Finnair, and before that an Lockheed L-1011 TriStar leased from Aer Turas.
