"Sharpe's Peril" is a forthcoming British television drama, part of a series that follows the career of Richard Sharpe, based on the novels of Bernard Cornwell.

Production history

At a book signing in Bath on 11 October 2006, Bernard Cornwell revealed that there were plans by ITV to film two more episodes. Filming was supposed to start in April, but was postponed due to the resignation of ITV's chief executive, at which point production was pushed back to September. However, Sean Bean was unavailable due to other commitments, so production has been postponed once more. When asked about the stories, Cornwell said that he believed that they were producing two new stories specially for television. Filming "Sharpe's Peril", produced by Celtic Film/Picture Palace, began on 3 March 2008 in India and finished in late April.cite web | title=Sharpe news | last= | first= | work=The South Essex | url=http://www.southessex.co.uk/news/index.htm | date= | accessdate=2008-02-22 ] [cite web | title=Sharpe's Peril | work=Compleat Sean Bean | url=http://www.compleatseanbean.com/sharpesperil/sharpesperil.html | accessdate=2008-02-22 ] The episode should appear on ITV1 towards the end of the third quarter of 2008 and is due for release on DVD on 24 November 2008 [cite web |url=http://www.play.com/Search.aspx?searchtype=allproducts&searchstring=sharpe&page=search&pa=search&go.x=38&go.y=10 |title="Sharpe's Peril" |publisher=Play.com |accessdate=2008-08-26] . There is also a making-of documentary being produced for the show [imdb title|id=1235198|title=The Making of Sharpe's Peril] .

Plot

It will continue from whence "Sharpe's Challenge" left off. The plot centres around Sharpe (Sean Bean) training his men to become proper soldiers to defeat a corrupt East India Company commander. Sharpe and Harper (Daragh O'Malley) find a Company baggage train on their way to Calcutta when there is a bandit attack led by Chitu.
