West Muskingum Middle School

West Muskingum Middle School is a public middle school in Zanesville, Ohio. It is the only middle school in the [http://www.westm.k12.oh.us West Muskingum Local Schools] district. Their mascot is the Tornado, and the school colors are blue and gold.
The current middle school was built in 1975 and a remodel was finished in late December 2006.
Brief HistoryVoters in the West Muskingum School District passed the $1,711,000 bond issue in November of 1972 by a fifty-six percent margin with the largest number of people ever voting on a school issue. Nearly 4,000 people voted in the November regular election on the bond issue.
The Architectural firm of Kellam and Foley of Columbus, Ohio, was employed by the Board of Education to design the building according to the educational specifications prepared by the administration and the staff. The Board of Education approved the educational specifications in April of 1973 and the Architects prepared the necessary drawings and documents for bidding the project. Bonds were sold on January 15, 1973 at an interest rate of four and seven-eighths percent. Bids were received on August 22, 1973 and contracts were awarded on September 27, 1978 and the construction of the Middle School was underway. The Middle School was opened September 2, 1975.
The total cost of construction was $2,031,839.52 with a total floor area of 59,960 sq. ft. The building featured an open concept floor plan within two stories
