Further was a United States indie rock band from Los Angeles, California, that evolved from an earlier band, Shadowland. They released several albums during the 1990s.

History

Further evolved from Shadowland, a sixties-influenced band led by brothers Brent and Darren Rademaker, that released two albums for Geffen Records in 1989 and 1990 ("Shadowland" and "The Beauty of Escaping" respectively).cite web |url=http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:0jfyxq8gldte~T1 |title=Further - Biography |accessdaymonth=06 April |accessyear=2008 |author=Prato, Greg |year= |month= |work=allmusic.com |publisher=Macrovision Corporation |quote= ] Unlike Shadowland, Further were very much an indie rock band, gaining comparisons with the likes of Dinosaur Jr and Sonic Youth (Lee Ranaldo even guesting on their debut album).cite web |url=http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:hvfrxqyhld0e |title=Further - Griptape Review |accessdaymonth=06 April |accessyear=2008 |author=Spano, Charles |year= |month= |work=allmusic.com |publisher=Macrovision Corporation |quote= ] cite web |url=http://www.trouserpress.com/entry.php?a=further |title=Further |accessdaymonth=06 April |accessyear=2008 |author=Robbins, Ira |year= |month= |work=TrouserPress |publisher= |quote= ] Second album, "Sometimes Chimes" contained 25 tracks, and drew comparisons to Beck, Unrest, Pavement and Sebadoh.cite web |url=http://www.scaruffi.com/vol5/further.html |title=Further |accessdaymonth=06 April |accessyear=2008 |author=Scaruffi, Pierro |year=1999 |month= |work=The History of Rock Music |publisher= |quote= ] Fitzgerald left the group before third album "Grimes Golden", replaced by a drum machine. The band became sufficiently popular in the United Kingdom to have records released on Creation Records (an expanded version of their debut album) and Fierce Panda. In 1995, the band recorded a five-track session for John Peel's BBC Radio 1 show.cite web |url=http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/johnpeel/sessions/1990s/1995/Sep28further/ |title=Keeping It Peel - Further |accessdaymonth=06 April |accessyear=2008 |author= |year= |month= |work=Keeping It Peel |publisher=BBC |quote= ] The band's final album, "Next Time West Coast" saw the band's sound shift towards the sixties/severties-rock sound that the brothers would go on to explore in their later groups, The Tyde and Beachwood Sparks.cite web |url=http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Further_%28band%29&action=edit&redlink=1 |title=Further - Next Time West Coast Review |accessdaymonth=06 April |accessyear=2008 |author=Bregman, Adam |year= |month= |work=allmusic.com |publisher=Macrovision Corporation |quote= ]
