1834 -August 6 ,1897 ) was a Virginia lawyer who was three times elected to serve asAttorney General of Virginia .From
Fauquier County, Virginia , Scott graduated from theUniversity of Virginia in 1856, and studied law under his father. He served as an officer in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. After the War he was elected to the State Convention, and was elected in 1881 to a term as a member of theVirginia General Assembly .Scott was elected Attorney General in 1889, succeeding
Rufus A. Ayers , and was twice re-elected. Scott died while in office, and was buried atWarrenton, Virginia .ource
