Meissner state

Meissner state

The Meissner state [Named after Walther Meißner] is a thermodynamic state of a superconductor, characterized by the total exclusion of an external magnetic field (the Meissner effect).cite web| last=Kaper | first=Hans G. | coauthors=Gary K. Leaf | year=1996 | title=Transition to the vortex state | publisher=Argonne National Laboratory | url=http://www-fp.mcs.anl.gov/ccst/research/reports_pre1998/materials_sci/superconductors/dynamics.html | accessdate=2008-04-06] [ [http://www.websters-online-dictionary.org/me/meissner+state.html Meissner State ] ] It is due to the superconductor's Meissner current, existing along the material's boundary, which resists outside magnetic flux less than an inherent maximum, H_c.
