Peter M. Swartz

Peter M. Swartz is Dell IT's Director for Dell’s Global Site and Data Center Services, managing a team of 500 who support the whole of the company's 90,000+ workforce in their day-to-day use of PCs, printers, desk-based telephony, and mobile messaging and cellular devices. In addition, Swartz is responsible for managing Dell’s 100+ Data Centers worldwide, housing more than 20,000 servers in 350,000 square feet of "raised floor" space.

Prior to taking on his Operations role, Swartz managed a $250M global application portfolio used by Dell to run its entire supply chain, and all of its manufacturing and distribution plants, Financial Systems, and Services applications. In this role he had responsibility for roadmaps, budgets and project execution. Mr. Swartz was also directly accountable for application development teams managing factory automation, real-time metrics and reporting of Dell’s Manufacturing and Supply Chain, and the applications that support Dell’s proprietary customer hard drive image burning process. Finally, he was responsible for ramping up and early maintenance of the IT aspects for new manufacturing facilities in Xiamen China, Hortolandia Brazil, Chennai India and Lotz Poland.

In 1994, Mr. Swartz began developing a systems suite for Dell that over time has evolved into the company's data warehouse. He worked to define the Dell Data Warehouse (DDW) architecture and middleware infrastructure, while deploying and supporting the initial worldwide warehouse that provided daily summaries of orders to the company’s senior management. Later, he took on the task of globalizing Dell's e-Commerce engine, by first managing the effort to merge local requirements and then deploying the suite of applications to Dell's European business units. In 2004, Mr. Swartz transitioned in Dell’s Global Manufacturing IT space, where he led the effort to integrate more than 200 applications developed "in the business" into Dell IT. Swartz went on to champion factory automation software at Dell, where he and his team defined and implemented a multi-year plan to deploy a single, standard factory-automation layer to all of Dell’s numerous new facilities while, at the same time, completing the retrofit to the rest of the company’s locations.

Between his time with Dell, Mr. Swartz also served as a principal in three Internet startups, shifting between Pittsburgh, London, and Paris.

Mr. Swartz holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and a degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business.
