Robert Poydasheff

Robert S. "Bob" Poydasheff (born 1930) is a former mayor of Columbus, Georgia.

Poydasheff served as mayor of Columbus from 2003 through 2006, having previously served on Columbus city council from 1994 through 2002. He served with distinction in the United States Army for 24 years, retiring at the rank of Colonel. During his military career, he served as chief counsel to several high-ranking officers involved in the My Lai Massacre and the Post Exchange scandal.

He earned a B.A. in political science from The Citadel in 1954, a J.D. from Tulane University Law School, an M.A. in international relations from Boston University's Graduate Program in Berlin, Germany, and attended the Hague Academy of International Law in the Netherlands.

Poydasheff was unsuccessful in his 2006 bid for re-election to a second term as mayor, and was succeeded by former Columbus police chief Jim Wetherington. On November 7, 2006 at about 10:40 PM, with election returns pointing towards a Wetherington victory, Poydasheff telephoned his opponent to concede the election. During the conversation, Poydasheff's camp applauded Wetherington for his success.

Poydasheff is married to the former Anastasia Catherine Latton, and has two children.
