extrasolar planet located 355light year s away in the constellation Perseus, orbiting thegiant star HD 17092 .Discovery
In
2007 discovery of anextrasolar planet orbiting HD 17092 was announced by a team led by Andrzej Niedzielski of PolishNicolaus Copernicus University and including astronomers fromPenn State , theSpitzer Science Center , theJet Propulsion Laboratory , and theUniversity of Texas .Cite journal | first = A. | last = Niedzielski | coauthors = Konacki, M.; Wolszczan, A.; Nowak, G.; Maciejewski, G.; Gelino, R.C.; Shao, M.; Shetrone, M.; Ramsey, L.W. | title = A Planetary Mass Companion to the K0 Giant HD 17092 | journal = arXiv.org | date = May 7, 2007 | url = http://www.arxiv.org/abs/0705.0935] The discovery was made using theHobby-Eberly Telescope .Characteristics
The planet, designated as HD 17092 b, has a
minimum mass of 4.6 Jupiter masses. The mean distance of the planet from the star is more than distance betweenEarth and theSun at 1.29 AU, and the eccentricity of the orbit is mild at 0.166.Because of its high mass and gravity, the radius would probably be slightly smaller than Jupiter. Its speculated that it would have
temperature of 402 K, which would make this planet a (Sudarsky type III), meaning that this planet would be blue and cloudless.External links
