Rich Perez out of Benjamin Franklin High School in Los Angeles, CA class of 1982, was picked up in the 1983 supplemental MLB free agent supplemental draft by the
Cincinnati Reds In 1983 Perez's rights were traded along with several others to theHouston Astros for highly-regarded Outfielder Cesar Cedeno. Perez spent four years with the Astros minor league affiliates and was called up in fall of 1986 season along withKen Caminiti but both saw no action, Perez was traded in 1987 to theScottsdale Giants , the triple AAA affiliate for theSan Francisco Giants .(see: www.thebaseballcube.com) Perez had short stints in Iowa with the Cubs, Royals, Brewers and Orioles organizations before hanging up his cleats on the advice of then manager former Dodgers great Jim Lefebvre as Perez struggled after shoulder Acromium/Labrum surgery. Perez between the minors had several stints as assistant coach with his alma mater at Franklin High School in Los Angeles from 1983 until they won the city title in 1989 under the guidance of head coach Rick Campbell.A shoulder injury derailed his career so Perez ended up as an assistant to the players with the then NFL

The Rams moved to St. Louis and Perez moved to Indiana and started doing Sports Television inMichigan City, Indiana on Cable Access channel 27 (now 99) in the small community along with formerDallas Mavericks star Sam Hill. This would lead to several other TV and Radio build ups as the show became very successfully watched by the public in the great lakes area. Rich Perez is a father of 4, 1 boy and 3 girls, the eldest, his son Spent 1 year and 6 months exactly, in the US Marine Corps LCpl Richard Perez Jr. before he passed in "Operation Iraqi Freedom" in Iraq February 11, 2005 at the age of 19, in a controversial incident within days of going home to Las Vegas, NV.
