Sugar Soul is a female Japanese hip-hop group. They were commercially successful. They started in 1997 as a collaboration, with Hasebe (programming), Aiko Machida (vocals) and Kawabe (composer) [cite web

accessdate = 2008-04-04] . They helped bring hip hop to the mainstream music scene in Japan, along with artists like Misia and Utada Hikaru. They were categorized as “new R & B.” The music of “new R & B” is bass heavy with a token DJ scratch solo and a general emphasis on rhythms [Condry, Ian.
