Humble King Returning King

"Humble King Returning King" (2006) is a scholarly and devotional book about Jesus of Nazareth or in Hebrew, 'ישוע' ('Yeshua'), written by author Pete Kovacs, who though not raised in an observant Jewish home, was raised by parents who immigrated from Hungary to Canada and is ethnically Hungarian-Jewish and identifies as Messianic Jewish. He currently resides in Jerusalem, Israel. Humble King Returning King is his first book, published by RNK Publishing House LLC, a publishing company he started to give a voice to and publish authors from all backgrounds, both religious and non-religious, who seek to challenge readers with a fresh perspective. RNK's vision statement:

:"Behind every answer there is a question. RNK is committed to giving a voice to authors and thinkers who seek after the fundamental questions underlying the area, field, or topic they represent. Answers presented, whether ancient or contemporary, giving a fresh perspective built upon a foundation of integrity, intellectual humility, and the pursuit of truth." Born out of his personal experience and education, this book seeks to overcome the reality that mainline Christianity today is filled with an anti-Israel bias [Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, "Methodist Church Targets Israel," Online source: http://www.ifcj.org/site/News2?abbr=rabbi_&page=NewsArticle&id=18323&news_iv_ctrl=1481 [Accessed April 4, 2008] ] that is reminiscent of the anti-Judaism and anti-Semitism of Roman Emperor Constantine I and the early Christian Church fathers who distanced themselves from the spiritual and historical Jewish context of the first Jewish-Christian community in ancient Israel and Asia Minor. In Humble King Returning King, the author attempts to cast a new vision of what it means to be a follower of Jesus, rooted in and closely knit to ancient Jewish roots, the Jewish people, and the modern State of Israel.

Content

The publisher's description reads:

"Today, Jesus would be called a Sabra." Humble King Returning King seeks to bridge the divide between scholarly writing about Jesus in his historical 1st century Jewish context and the practical questions and issues Jesus would have felt and debated if he was born as an Israeli today. In a series of essays born out of scholarship, faith, and his experiences in Israel, author Pete Kovacs, faces the issues straight-up: faith in God versus atheism, Jesus' upbringing within the Jewish life-cycle and his big-picture context as Messiah, the problem of suffering in a post-Holocaust world, and persevering in the hope of love, moral goodness, and family." Reviews

One reviewer, a retired Officer of the Israel Defense Forces (Captain, artillery) commented:

:::"After reading a large portion of the book I was impressed with the clear, thought provoking writing. Peter brings unique,
well thought through and researched ideas. On top of all this, he skillfully communicates from his own heart." [http://search.barnesandnoble.com/bookSearch/isbnInquiry.asp?r=1&isbn=0615134718 [Accessed April 4, 2008] ]
