Background, Story and Plot

"H.A.W.X." is set in 2012 above the skies of a world increasingly dependent on private military companies (PMCs) and elite mercenaries who have lax view on the law. As these non-governmental organizations gain power, global conflict erupts with one powerful PMC attacking the United States. The game is set in the same universe as "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter"; Captain Scott Mitchell the Ghost leader is featured in one of the missions. Plot elements are carried over from other Tom Clancy games such as the missile defense system found in Tom Clancy's EndWar. The player begins the game as a former U.S. Air Force Pilot who provides fire-support missions for the Ghost Recon team as part of an elite unit called H.A.W.X. Some time after the events of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, the player joins a PMC, and flies missions for them until there is a crisis with the United States being attacked by the player's PMC. At this point, the player returns to the United States Air Force to defend the country from the PMC.

Gameplay

The game features an "Enhanced Reality System" (ERS), which can include radars, incoming missile detection, an anti-crash system, damage control system, tactical map, information relay, weapons trajectory control and the ability to give commands to an AI squadron. When fully activated, ERS provides assistance to the player. Some or all of these assists can be turned off to make the game more difficult and give the player more maneuverability. ERS can be disabled by a single button press which gives more direct control over the plane. Multiplayer

"H.A.W.X." supports four-player co-op throughout the campaign. Players can join other players' games on-the-fly. There is also a team deathmatch versus mode where up to 8 players can battle online for experience points and in-game cash to unlock new weapons.

Aircraft

Early screenshots of the game on numerous websites show images of an F-16C, F/A-18E, AV-8B Harrier, F-22 Raptor, Dassault Rafale, F-35 Lightning II, MiG-29(or 35), Sukhoi Su-35, Sukhoi Su-37, Su-47, Eurofighter Typhoon, A-10, F-18, and JAS 39 Gripen. It has been confirmed that 50 jet fighters will be in the game, and the game's developers have confirmed planes from all around the world, including F-22, F-35 and the Eurofighter, as well as many others.Fact|date=July 2008

A feature on the website allows the user to have first looks at the aircraft with specifications, and a 3D tour. Planes currently included are the F-16, F-22, Eurofighter Typhoon, AV-8B Harrier, Rafale, F-14, F-15, F-117, SEPECAT Jaguar, and JAS 39 Gripen
