Michael Brothwell is a presenter at BBC Radio York, hosting the weekly North Yorkshire Folk show,[1] and the Sunday Set.
He was a student at the University of York and a presenter on University Radio York; he presented "Sunday Breakfast" and "The Nation's Favourite". He was also a Proctor of the York Union Society.
He is now a director of Leeds Brewery.[2]
Brothwell was 22 years old when he started hosting the folk show on BBC Radio York in 2005. He championed many Yorkshire based folk artists (nu-folk and traditional) of all ages. As well as playing a broad range of folk styles on the programme, he held 'live sessions' featuring local and touring international acts. He interviewed Nic Jones, Martin Carthy, Jim Moray and Kate Rusby and a host of other folk musicians. Brothwell was often referred to as 'The John Peel of Folk'.
