WKLO-TV

WKLO-TV

WKLO-TV was a UHF television station in Louisville, Kentucky that operated from October 18, 1953 to April 20, 1954. It broadcast on channel 21 as a DuMont affiliate, [ [http://members.aol.com/cingram/television/dumonta10.htm The DuMont Television Network: Appendix Ten ] ] using the personnel and facilities of WKLO-AM. Since very few television sets at that time could receive a UHF signal, WKLO was at a disadvantage against the two existing VHF stations. Advertisers were reluctant to purchase commercial time on the station and it suspended operations in 1954 after just six months on air. On July 13, 1956 WKLO asked the FCC to let it use VHF Channel 7 which was at the time allocated in nearby Evansville, Indiana, but this never occurred.
