Known by reviewers for her dark humour and search of 'decency in the grimmest of places'. Described as the 'opposite of chick lit' Dean tackles some difficult and less glamourous themes - her first book dealt with the themes of ageing, pancreatic cancer and Alzheimers, her second book 'This Human Season' gives an intricate study of the Blanket or Dirty Protest in the H blocks in the lead up to the
Hunger Strike in Northern Ireland in 1981 and the assassinations of prison warders. It does not flinch from the cruelty inflicted by one side of the Troubles on the other. Her third book 'The Idea of Love' discusses mental illness, the pharmaceutical business and the exploitation of Africa.Published in China, Poland, Turkey, Europe, North America. Currently publishing with Penguin UK. Further title to be published in 2008 in the UK and USA as 'The Idea of Love'.
