Frontier Developments is a British
computer and video games development company. The company is based inCambridge ,England , and was originally founded byDavid Braben to develop "Frontier", the sequel to the groundbreaking "Elite"."Frontier" was released in 1993 to critical acclaim and commercial success, and a sequel, "
First Encounters ", followed in 1995. However, the game's publishersGametek released an unfinished version of this game that contained many bugs, which lead to poor reviews and low sales. Frontier Developments subsequently initiated legal action against Gametek, which was eventually settled in 1999. The company claims to be working on a new "Elite" sequel, under the working title "Elite 4 ", but this has been in production since 1998 leading many observers to label the gamevaporware .Aside from the "Elite" series, Frontier Developments has been responsible for a number of popular PC and console games, including "
Dog's Life " and parts of theRollerCoaster Tycoon series. The company also makes games for theWallace & Gromit franchise, and has released "Wallace and Gromit in Project Zoo " and a tie-in game for "".Frontier Developments is a private
