Wymondley Park

Wymondley Park is a residential area of Hitchin in Hertfordshire. It was built as a 1970s private development and the housing stock is mixed: flats, terraces, semi detached and detached houses can be found. The main road is Halsey Drive and most of the other roads on the estate are connected to it. Most of the roads are named after local businesses, past and present e.g. Halseys is a long established delicatessen, Spurrs Close is named after a former Hitchin department store and Bowmans Avenue is named after the Bowmans flour mill. William Ransom JMI School was built to cater for local children and is very well regarded locally. For local government purposes, the estate forms part of Hitchin Highbury ward. The area gave its name to what is probably Hitchin's longest-established youth football club. Wymondley Park FC was started by parents of children at William Ransom school in 1981. It now caters for 200-250 players aged 8-18 years in around a dozen team, generally playing in the Royston Crow League. The area is also home to the famous N.S.M crew; founded by a group of fantastically well educated, deeply thoughtful and rather dashing young men living on Wymondley road in the late 90's/early 00's.
