Tyler Harper is a fictional character in the Australian soap opera "Neighbours", portrayed by Dean Geyer. He first appeared on the show on episode 5419, which aired on March 27, 2008. He was introduced in the show as the cousin of Taylah Jordan (portrayed by Danielle Horvat).

Character development

Dean Geyer's character Ty Harper was first reported about by the Australian magazine TV Week in November 2007, after several months of rumours, by stating that the ex-Australian Idol contestant would be joining the "Neighbours"' cast. The Sunday Telegraph reported that Geyer described the role as "pretty similar to me... a confident character but he doesn't like to show a lot of his personal side." Dean had been working with drama coach Mike Bishop for four months to prepare for his role, and had also been taking vocal lessons to help with his South African accent. Character's background

Before his on-screen appearance, it was revealed that Ty is a university drop-out with musical aspirations. Ty was first seen in the show when he spoke to Rachel Kinski (Caitlin Stasey) at the bar, commenting on the poor service. He was performing with his band at an all-ages gig, that was attended by Rachel, his cousin Taylah, Rachel's brother Zeke (Matthew Werkmeister), Bridget Parker (Eloise Mignon), Declan Napier (James Sorensen), Ringo Brown (Sam Clark), Daniel Fitzgerald (Brett Tucker) and Libby Kennedy (Kym Valentine). Taylah had intentions of setting up Rachel and Ty together, though Rachel rejected every move that the two of them made. Later he was hired by Stephanie Scully (Carla Bonner) as an employee at Charlie's, though after being caught sleeping on the premises, he was invited to move in with her and Libby. He eventually developed a crush on Libby, and almost shared a kiss with her, though the two of them did not act on it afterwards. At the Erinsborough High school formal, he allowed Rachel to be the lead singer in a song that she wrote, named "Unforgettable" (the song was written by Dean Geyer [cite web | url = http://neighbours.com.au/music.htm | title= Neighbours: Music page | accessdate=2008-05-24] ).

Relationship with Rachel

Recently Ty and Rachel have been getting close as they have been pretending to be "boyfriend/girlfriend" for the sake of Ty's ex-stalker Donna. Although Ty has developed feelings for Rachel he has acted on them due to Rachel's on-going love for Angus. After Angus left Rachel for a job in South Australia Ty gave Rachel a very expensive electric keyboard to make her feel better. Rachel thought that the keyboard was from Angus so she decided she didn't want it. Ty then explained that he is the one who bought the keyboard. Rachel was shocked at the fact that Angus has only been gone a few days and Ty is already buying her expensive gifts. She got mad at him and then Ty apologized for upsetting her. He told her that the only reason he wanted her to be happy is that he cares about her.

On the night of the Footie Slave Auction Rachel didn't attend as she was avoiding Ty. That night as Rachel was babysitting Ben and Charlie someone kept sending her creeping texts and turned off all the power. She got seriously scared and was armed with a cricket bat if someone came in and attacked her. As someone was making their way through the back door, Rachel couldn't see who it was and got scared and hit the person with the cricket bat. It was later revealed that it was Ty who was making his way into the house. Rachel then accused Ty of all the things that were happening to her that night and got upset. Ty went to the hospital and got his head checked out and Karl, Susan and Zeke are all shocked to think that Ty could have been the one stalking Rachel. Later that night Steph took Ty over to the Kennedy residence to explain himself. Ty asked them all if they thought he was really that sort of person. They didn't know what to think. Ty then said that he would never do that to Rachel. That he wouldn't. He then asked her how could she not know how he felt about her. The next morning, Rachel then tricked a classmate named Justin into confessing to the texts and the blackout after putting all of the pieces together and believing that Ty would never hurt her. Rachel then tried apologizing to Ty and said that she should have believed him. He just ignored her. Afterwards, she explained that friends make mistake and that she was really, really sorry. Ty then asked her how she cracked the case. "Was it torture?" "Bingo!" - Rachel.

On Monday 29th September, Rachel invited Ty to see a concert along with Declan and Bridget. At first Ty seemed unsure, but went to the concert after all. There he and Rachel shared a special moment and kissed after the concert had finished. This began their relationship. They are now dating properly, but are speculated to be split-up.
