James Rucker grew up in Seaside, California and received a BS in Symbolic Systems from Stanford University. He served as Director of Grassroots Mobilization for MoveOn Political Action and MoveOn Civic Action from the fall of 2003 through the summer of 2005, helping execute various fundraising, technology, and campaign strategies. Prior to joining MoveOn, he worked in various roles in the software industry in Silicon Valley. He co-founded Imana, Inc., an enterprise software company, in San Francisco, and provided management coaching and technology consulting for various other start-up ventures. Rucker currently runs Color of Change, an online activist organization that aims to strengthen the voice of African Americans in the United States. Color of Change was founded by Rucker and Van Jones in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, and was instrumental in raising awareness for the cause of the Jena Six.
