anniversaries=The 702d Strategic Missile Wing is an inactive United States Air Force unit. The wing was last active in 1961, based at Presque Isle AFB, Maine.
The 702d Strategic Missile Wing (ICM-Snark) was the only Snark missile wing in USAF. The wing also briefly controlled a missile squadron at Patrick AFB, Florida in 1959, and later a detachment at the same base.
The 702d was established as the 702d Strategic Missile Wing (ICM-Snazk) on 17 Jun 1958. It was activated on 1 January 1959. Its operational component was the 556th Missile Squadron. On 27 May 1959, the wing received its first operational missile. Ten months later, on 18 March 1960, a Snark officially went on alert status.
The 702nd was not declared fully operational until February 1961. In March 1961, President John F. Kennedy declared the Snark "obsolete and of marginal military value" and on 25 June 1961 the 702nd was deactivated
