Scottish Gaelic : Loch Omhaich) is a freshwaterloch in theHighlands of Scotland which forms part of theCaledonian Canal . This narrow loch lies betweenLoch Ness andLoch Lochy in theGreat Glen [cite web |title=Bathymetrical Survey of the Fresh-Water Lochs of Scotland, 1897-1909 |url=http://web.archive.org/web/20070208122134/http://www.nls.uk/maps/early/bathymetric/main_info.html |publisher=National Library of Scotland ] .The Loch Oich wildlife is rich with a wide variety of fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds end mammals.
Every autumn the Atlantic salmon (salmo salar) migrates from the Sea using Loch Oich, Loch Lochy and Loch Ness as their spawning nests. After two years when the fingerling are up to 20 cm long they migrate back to the Sea where they grow rapidly and weigh from 3,5 – 17 kg after two years.
