Alexander Nadson

Father Alexander Nadson ( _be. Аляксандар Надсан, born August 8, 1926) is the Apostolic Visitator for the Belarusian Greek-Catholic faithful abroad and a notable Belarusian emigrant social and religious leader.

Born as Aliaksandar Bochka ( _be. Аляксандар Бочка) in the village Haradzieja near Niasvizh, he studied at the Niasvizh seminary.

In 1944 he emigrated from Belarus, in 1946 he was a soldier in the 2nd Polish Corps, fought in northern Italy where he was wounded.

In 1946 he moved to Great Britain where he at the University of London. Alexander Nadson was one of the founders of the Association of Belarusians in Great Britain and its chairman in 1951-1953. He was editor of periodicals "Biełarus na čužynie" and "Na šlachu", took part in activities of the Belarusian Christian academic society "Ruń" and the "Belarusian People's Independence Christian Movement".

From fall 1953 he studied in the Greek Collegium in Rome. On November 23, 1958 he became priest.

In July 1959 Alexander Nadson returned to London where he continued his activity in organizations of the Belarusian diaspora.

Since 1971 Alexander Nadson is the director of the Francis Skaryna Belarusian Library and Museum in London, the largest Belarusian library abroad. Since 1981 is head of Belarusian Catholic mission in Great Britain, since late 1980ies - the Apostolic Visitator for all Belarusian Greek-Catholic faithful abroad.

He is author of several books on the history of Belarus and head of a Chernobyl charity fund.
