Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary - Windsor, Ontario Order

In 1861, The Bishop of Sandwich, Pierre Pinsonneault, concluded his diocese required a teaching order.] [1]

On October 20, 1864, four sisters arrived via the Great Western Railway.] [1]

Four days after arriving, the Sisters opened the girls' parochial school, alsoknown as the Catholic Department of the Windsor Public School.] [1]

They were housed by a welcoming parishioner until their residence, a two-story brick buildingon Goyeau and London Streets was ready, in November.] [1]

On November 28, 1864, St Mary's Academy opened on Goyeau street with seven students.Their first borders arrived in February 1865.] [1]

Other foundations in the area opened after Windsor :
Amhertsburg, Ontario (1865);
Decatur, Illinois (1865),
Sarnia, Ontario (1867),
Detroit Michigan (1886 and 1888) and
Lake Linden, Mi (1893).] [1]

Second Location

In the late 1920s the Order sold the building and land to the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel Corporation.

The original building was demolished in 1929.

The second St Mary's Academy opened in 1928 in South Windsor.

On the afternoon of April 29, 1977 imploded St. Mary’s to make way for a subdivision.

Third Location

Peter Street was the location for their current building.
