Reach for the rainbow

Reach for the Rainbow (RFTR)was founded in 1983 by Donna Trella, and is a registered charity serving children and young adults with developmental and physical disabilities from across Ontario. Working with 64 Partners in Integration, Reach for the Rainbow works to provide integrated recreational, respite and outreach opportunities. The agency's integrated programs are designed to: Provide an opportunity for children and youth with physical and/or developmental disabilities living at home to participate in integrated summer camps and community programs; Provide training opportunities for camp staff and on-going consultation with parents and campers to help ensure a successful, integrated experience that benefits parents, campers, staff, and community alike; Allow the opportunity for respite care in valued settings. Respite strengthens families caring for individuals with disabilities at home and creates a positive impact on their quality of life.

Reach for the Rainbow's integrated programs enable children and young adults with disabilities to take part in all the fun that recreational and summer camp programs have to offer. Reach for the Rainbow works in partnership with organized children's camps and recreational programs across Ontario, and each camp participant attends with a 1:1 support counsellor. Participants are included in program activities while 1:1 support staff responds to any requirements associated with the disability. Parents enjoy much-needed respite, knowing that their child is growing and learning in a typical setting, with enriched support. Program supports include on-site pre-camp training, Gift of Belonging workshops and staff forums, an annual conference, resource visits to over 74 camps, a loan cupboard for adapted equipment, accessible bussing and year round integration programming across Ontario. When you become involved with Reach for the Rainbow you share our commitment to belonging and inclusion.
