- Egon Schweidler
Egon Schweidler, (* February 10, 1873 in Vienna; † Feb. 10, 1948, in Salzburg Seeham) was an
Austrian physicist . After studying physics and mathematics doctorate he 1895 produced the dissertation „Über die innere Reibung von Quecksilber und einigen Amalgamen “ . He was assistant toFranz Exner at Serafin II.Biography
He was born in 1873 as the son of the court and Gerichtsadvokaten Emil von Schweidler born in Vienna. After studying physics and mathematics, he earned his doctorate with a dissertation 1895 "
On the internal friction of mercury and some Amalgamen " and was assistant to Franz Exner Serafin on II.Physikalischen Institute
He went in 1899 to the University of Vienna. In 1911 he was appointed to associate professor. From 1911-1926, he headed the
Department of Experimental Physics at theUniversity of Innsbruck , where he was dean 1924 and 1925/26 was rector. He returned in 1926 under its appeal to the Ordinary II at the Physics Institute of the University of Vienna in the Turkish road to Vienna. There, he also worked as a secretary (1929-1933), Secretary-General (1933-1938), Vice President (1939-1945) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. In 1933 he was also elected chairman of theGerman Physical Society elected.Legacy
Especially from a academic historical view, his large works in the field of
atmospheric electricity should be mentioned. Schweidlers scientific work was very early (1907) with the award of "Baumgartner Prize " of theVienna Academy of Sciences for the study of the anomalies in the behavior ofdielectric s. He pointed 1899 with Stefan Meyer, inter alia, the statistical nature of theradioactive decay , or the magneticAblenkbarkeit beta radiation as fastelectron s. His predicted variations (1905) in the ionization radiation formed in the end for a large number of theoretical and experimental investigations. Max von Laue in 1947 published his "History of Physics " (written 1946 during his forced stay at the English Farm Hall) "unabsehbarer importance of progress".Publications
