The Memorial area of
Houston, Texas is a wealthy district west of theDowntown Houston and northwest ofUptown Houston . It is bounded on the south byBuffalo Bayou , on the east by the610 Loop , on the west byBeltway 8 , and extends just north of the Katy Freeway (Interstate 10 ). Within its boundaries is the area called “The Villages,” which includes the cities ofBunker Hill Village ,Hedwig Village , Spring Valley Village,Hilshire Village ,Piney Point Village , andHunters Creek Village . These independent cities operate autonomously of Houston and have joint fire and police coverage. The northeast area near I-10 and Beltway 8 of Memorial City is home toMemorial City Mall and the newer, more upscale Town & Country Village lifestyle center, plus the emergingedge city around them.The surrounding parts of Houston in Memorial are called the “Near Villages”.

Spring Branch Independent School District . Despite being partially located in Houston, it is "not" served by theHouston Independent School District . Memorial High School in Hedwig Village serves the eastern portion of the Memorial area, while Stratford High School serves the western portion of the Memorial area. Westchester Academy for International Studies is another Memorial area high school run by the Spring Branch Independent School District, but although being located between Stratford High School and Memorial High School, it is a charter school catering to students throughout Spring Branch and not Memorial-specific.Memorial is served by the Spring Branch Memorial Branch of
