- Wangala
Wangala is the greatest Harvesting Festival among others festival of
Garo , who lives inMeghalaya ,India and GreaterMymensingh inBangladesh .They thanks to God and Goddes, called Misi Saljong known as "Pattigipa Ra'rongipa" ((Sun-God).) for blessing the human beings with rich harvest of the season.It celebrates two or three days or one week gathering two or three village, thought it celebrates one day recently in Metropolitan City or city areas. "Rugala" and "Sasat Sowa" celebrates in first day. This is performed inside the house of the Nokma or Chief of the village. And "Dama Gogata" celebrates in last day. During wangalaPeople young and old dressed in their colourful (Dokmanda, Doksari, gando) with feathered headgears (do'mi) dance to the tune of music played on long oval-shaped drums (Dama,).
"Katta Dokka" talking as style of signing, "Ajea", Dani Dokka ( describing wangala by singing,) Chambil Mesa or Pomelo Dance, etc performs during this days.
Wangala celebrates in the month of September to December of the year.
The first Hundred Drums Wangala Festival was organised on December 6 and 7, 1976 at Asanang, the Headquarters of Rongram Development Block, 18km from Tura in India. And in Bangladesh, in the month of October,1978, the first Wangala Celebrate at Biroi Dakuni Chatholic Mission, Haluaghat, Mymensigh. In 1994 in Dhaka Metropolitan; in 2002 Biddyabill, Srimangal, Moulovibaza; in 2007 In Chittagong Cathedral celebrates wangala.
It also known as Hundred Drums, Wanna, Wanna rongchuwa.
It celebrates, In Pirgacha, Modhupur; Dhaka Metropolitan city; and Pathorghata Catholic Church Chittagong Every year during the September to December.
