300 Saal Guru de Naal

In the pages of history, the year 2008 will be looked upon as a golden year for the Sikh community. During Oct-Nov this year, more than 4 million devotees will congregate at Nanded, to commemorate 300 years of the consecration (Gurta Gaddi) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj as the eternal Guru and the heavenly journey (Parlokgaman) of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj. The occasion has been popularized as ‘300 Saal Guru de Naal’ [300 Saal on HazurSahib.com at http://www.hazursahib.com/300_saal.aspx]

As a prelude to the grand event, [http://www.300saalgurudenaal.com/2007/11/simran-diwas.html Simran Diwas] was celebrated on the 15th of November 2007. At 4.30 p.m. IST for 15 minutes, the Sikh community across the world observed this holy day by chanting the Mool Mantra to profess their unity, faith and devotion towards their beloved Guru.

Another significant event was the [http://www.300saalgurudenaal.com/search/label/jagriti%20yatra Jagriti Yatra] ; a yatra that lovingly showcases the Puratan Hast-likhit Bir of Sri Guru Granth Sahibji and the Shastars of Sri Guru Gobind Singhji Maharaj. The Jagriti Yatra that has embarked upon a year long journey across India and the world, will conclude at Nanded on the 30th of October 2008. Till date, whichever place the yatra graced, devotees thronged in thousands. Some had tears of devotion and joy in their eyes, while the others, got off their cars, to sweep the roads for the Yatra.

The holy city of Nanded, where the event is being held, is undergoing a remarkable metamorphosis. To welcome over 4 million devotees with open arms, there’s rapid redevelopment taking place. Structures are being built, roads are being widened, all kinds of facilities and amenities are being developed. Truly, great preparations for the greatest event in the history of Sikhism.
