Idris Jusoh

Idris Jusoh

Haji Idris bin Jusoh was a former Menteri Besar (Chief Minister) of the state of Terengganu, Malaysia. He is a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) which is part of the nation ruling coalition Barisan Nasional.

Crisis in Terengganu

Following the 2008 Malaysian general election, Barisan Nasional managed to win in the Terengganu state election garnering 24 out of 32 state seats on offer, with PAS winning the remaining 8 seats. A crisis soon ensued after the Sultan of Terengganu, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, who is also the then Yang di-Pertuan Agong (Supreme Ruler) of Malaysia (till currently), refused to re-appoint and swear in Idris as Menteri Besar. The sultan instead appointed Ahmad Said, one of the 24 BN state assemblymen. Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi responded by saying that the appointment of Ahmad Said as "unconstitutional".
