Graduate School of International Development

GSID (Graduate School of International Development) is a Faculty of Nagoya University.

History

In 1982 the deans of the Schools of Letters, Education, Law and Economics of Nagoya University and the College of General Education submitted a proposal to establish an institution emphasizing international cooperation and exchange in the Pacific Basin. In 1986, The Committee on the Pacific Basin Research Center, chaired by the University President, was established at Nagoya University. The research project on cultural and social structure in the Asia-Pacific region was initiated. By March 1990 the Working Committee submitted a proposal to establish the Graduate School of International Development (GSID), consisting of programs in International Development, International Cooperation Studies, and International Communication. In April 1991, The Graduate School of International Development was instituted as the ninth graduate school at Nagoya University. The Master's Program in International Development was established. April 1992, The Master's Program in International Cooperation Studies was established. April 1993, The Master's Program in International Communication was established. In addition, the Doctoral Program in International Development started. April 1994, The Doctoral Program in International Cooperation Studies started. April 1995, The Doctoral Program in International Communication started.
